CSP Today’s recent interview with Yago Mancebo, Investment Manager at Masdar revealed that GDF’s experience as one of the world’s largest independent power producers (IPP) is the main reason for partnering with them for CSP projects in Morocco
Masdar and GDF Suez are working in a consortium as one of the pre-qualified bidders for the 200MW Noor II and 100MW Noor III CSP projects in Morocco. The winning bidders are expected to be announced in September this year and in a recent interview with...
DNV GL is exploring how a concentrating solar plant with thermal storage (CSP-TES) can dramatically increase its revenues through ancillary services provision. The key is to find the optimal design, by varying turbine and storage configurations, depending on which markets will be accessed. With the opening of the Ivanpah[1] solar power plant last week, the conversation around profitability of CSP plants, and the true costs and benefits of renewable energy, has been re-kindled (with green energy...
Torresol Energy, an alliance between SENER and Masdar for the promotion of major CSP plants around the world, will take part once again in the World Future Energy Summit that will be hosted in Abu Dhabi (UAE) from January 20 to 22, bringing together the main actors in the renewable energy sector worldwide.
In a shared booth, SENER’s Engineering and Construction division and Torresol Energy will be presenting solar thermal innovative projects and technologies. Besides, for the first time, SENER...

Solar researcher Marc Röger works at the Plataforma Solar de Almería, in southern Spain
Throughout his doctoral thesis, Marc Röger developed a contactless measuring technique, which measures the heat transfer of solar power plant components. It is for this discovery that he was awarded the DLR Wissenschaftspreis (Award for Contributions made to Science). Since then, he has been the head of Group Systems in the Department of Qualification at the DLR Institute of Solar Research in Almería,...
Building on the Energy Department’s all-of-the-above energy strategy to continue U.S. leadership in clean energy innovation, the Department today announced over $13 million for five projects to strengthen domestic solar manufacturing and speed commercialization of efficient, affordable photovoltaic and concentrating solar power technologies. As part of the Department’s SunShot Initiative, these awards will help lower the cost of solar electricity, support a growing U.S. solar workforce and...
The Gemasolar solar plant, owned by Torresol Energy, stars again in the advertising campaign of a product, this time in the Gran Turismo®6 (GT6TM) video game for PlayStation®, Sony Computer Entertainment’s console. This innovative solar thermal plant has served as an additional setting in the famous video game to be released worldwide on December 6. Gemasolar is, today, the only solar thermal plant worldwide capable of producing energy round the clock exclusively by means of solar power thanks...
In support of the Obama Administration’s effort to advance our clean energy economy and support American innovation, the Energy Department today announced $19 million to reduce both hardware and non-hardware costs of solar and to drive greater solar energy deployment in the United States.
