Other info:

Gemasolar was born as "Solar Tres" project to develop a central receiver plant that uses molten salts as heat transfer fluid (HTF) and as thermal storage system.

The project was co-founded by the 5th Framework Program of the European Commission with €5 million.

The "Solar Tres" research program was carried out from 2002 to 2008 at the Plataforma Solar de Almeria (PSA), where tests for heliostats and receiver took place. The participants were SENER (leader participant), GHER SA, Ciemat-PSA, Saint Gobain and Siemens.

General comments:

The plant became operational in May 2011 and was inaugurated on October 2011, by HM the King of Spain Juan Carlos I and HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed.
